Riding high on the success of Singh is King Akshay wasn’t so clear of the fate of his next release Chandini Chowk To China Town. Maybe he had a very strong inkling. He overdid everything in this much delayed insipid story. The film isn’t likely to make the grade in newcomer Deepika Padukone’s portfolio as well. Was this Kung Fu gone wrong? Jackie Chan should be suing the makers. Visual display of Akshay’s skills in martial arts isn’t so spectacular. Not a patch on the oriental- Chan can do much better.
Was Akshay reliving his days as a street chef who runs a cartel on streets of Bangkok? Screen play writer Raghvan claims to be a fan of Jap’s Samurai Seven. But the inspiration is wrongly translated into the story. Director Nikhil Advani (Kal Hol Na Ho fame), fails to impress time. Even his earlier film Salaam-e-Ishq has a better storyline. Producer Rohan Sippy, another big name failed to see the pot pourri which showcased the worst of the best talent in the film industry.
Passing off Bangkok as China is the silliest thing. So where was the comedy in it? Akshay tried hard to match his comic timing w thoith Kung Fu action. But it failed. If he thought he was aping Jackie Chan in Rush Hour, he was certainly mistaken. Despite making films like Sholay and Seeta Aur Geeta, the Sippy banner has come up with a turkey in CC2C. The film seems to be lost in translation.
