How many good books have you seen turning into films of late? The answer is a very few. But not always these films have succeeded in luring the audiences; they usually lose their shades once the book is made as a film. But this cannot be said about “The Japanese wife”. ‘The Japanese Wife’ is Aparna Sen’s 8th directorial project and it’s one among her finest work and does complete justice to the original story.
The story of the film is based on a short story of the same name by writer Kunal Basu. It revolves around two simple introvert people, a boy from India and a girl from Japan who start ‘talking’ to each other on the internet as pen pals. And eventually their relationship grows to an amount that they start existing as married individuals. The story is about the two of them and how they go by life with trust and letters without seeing each other for seventeen years. The music of the film has a Japanese theme but the manner in which it merges with Bengali music is difficult to separate.
The story is simple yet worth watching. There are few scenes in the movie which make your heart skip a beat. With such a great star cast and storyline, you just can’t miss watching it. It can be described as a movie with a’ visual treat’. Thus the film turns out to be a must watch to augment your experience for superior and novel cinema.
