Well Done Abba

‘Well Done Abba’ is Shyam Benegal’s political satire. It narrates the quirky story of Armaan Ali (Boman) who works as a driver with a big businessman in Mumbai. Instead of coming back in a month, he takes 3 long months and so is fired from his job. It is then when Armaan narrates the story behind his trip to his hometown Chikatpalli to hunt a groom for his daughter Muskaan (Minissha). The story has a political plot of how he faces corruption to build a well on his land and is left with no money eventually. But his fiery daughter decides to turn the table back on all the corrupt officials’ heads. Arif (Sameer Dattani), the motor mechanic who is silently in love with her also joins her mission. The trio’s plan works and things twisting so much out of control that the Government gets on the verge of a fall down. The rest of the cast include Ravi Kishan, Sonali Kulkarni, Rajit Kapoor, and Ravi Jhankal, Yashpal Sharma and company and Deepika Deshpande making a comeback after her TV serial Farmaan.

Benegal’s ‘Well Done Abba’ is a jewel that works in spite of no big names. The film is very and the mocking humor manages to keep you smiling throughout the film. The film works big time because of the casting. All the characters have given a splendid performance giving the movie a critical acclamation. This Shyam Benegal’s project gives a strong message without compromising on its entertainment quotient.
